A Broomfield police officer fractured an ankle and finger last night after a semi tractor-trailer he was pursuing cut in front of him and he swerved into a concrete barrier, authorities say.
The officer was taken to a local hospital following the 8:36 p.m. accident on Sheridan Boulevard just south of East 9th Avenue, said Sgt. Colleen O’Connell, Broomfield police spokeswoman
Police closed Sheridan Boulevard between East 9th Avenue and Midway Boulevard while they investigated the accident.
The officer was going north on Sheridan trying to catch up to a semi tractor-trailer truck, which had been honking it’s horn in a possible road rage incident with a minivan, when the truck changed lanes in front of him, causing the accident, O’Connell said.
After hitting the concrete median, the motorcycle officer, whose name has not been released, slid into the southbound lanes of Sheridan Boulevard. The officer called for help.
The semi tractor-trailer driver pulled over north of the accident and spoke with investigators.
The case remains under investigation and no decision whether charges will be filed has been made.
