The hitting numbers that outfielder Seth Smith put up during a 10-game span heading into the weekend explain why he is a member of the Pacific Coast League all-star team that faces the International League in the July 16 Triple-A All-Star Game.

Smith hit .361 during that span, with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. He hit safely in eight of the 10 games, with more than one hit in five games.

A second-round Rockies draft pick in 2004, Smith started his run shortly after playing 12 games with the Rockies after being called up while the big-league roster was riddled with injuries.

For the season, Smith’s Triple-A numbers (as the Sky Sox returned home Friday to play Las Vegas) featured a .325 batting average, 79 hits, 10 home runs and 53 RBIs.

Sky Sox manager Tom Runnells noted that Smith’s play for the Sky Sox has been stellar before and after his time with the Rockies.

“All our players understand that when they’re called up to the big leagues, it could be temporary,” Runnells said. “They take advantage of the opportunity, but it doesn’t change what they had going on here.”

In his 12 big-league games, Smith hit .262 with two doubles, a home run and three RBIs.
