OF Seth Smith, Sky Sox

The numbers that outfielder Seth Smith put up over a 10-game span heading into the weekend explain why he is a member of the Pacific Coast League all-star team that faces the International League in the July 16 Triple-A All-Star Game.

Smith hit .361 in that span, with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. He hit safely in eight of the 10 games.

For the season, Smith’s Triple-A numbers are a .323 batting average, 80 hits, 10 home runs and 53 RBIs.

However, Smith may be a willing no-show after getting called up by the Rockies on Saturday to take injured Troy Tulowitzki’s spot on the roster.

A second-round draft pick in 2004, Smith batted .262 with one home run and three RBIs in a 12-game stint with Colorado earlier this season.

Sky Sox manager Tom Runnells noted that Smith’s play for the Sky Sox has been stellar before and after his time with the Rockies.

“All our players understand that when they’re called up to the big leagues, it could be temporary,” Runnells said. “They take advantage of the opportunity, but it doesn’t change what they had going on here.”
