An asbestos fire in a landfill and field off Tower Road forced the closing of roads in the area for several hours this morning, Denver police said in a news release.
The asbestos fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. Tower Road was closed between Pena Boulevard and 104th, 88th and 96th avenues. E-470 between Pena Boulevard and 120th Avenue was also closed.
Commerce City crews were first-responders, and Denver was asked to help with the road closures, the statement said.
The fire was contained by 6 a.m.
9News reported the roads were reopened around 7:30 a.m.
