The network, which paid $894 million for the U.S. broadcast rights to the Beijing Olympics, is trying to get its money’s worth, and with 3,600 hours of coverage scheduled, it just might. Counting the 1960 Olympics in Rome through the 2004 Athens Games, the 12 summer Olympics have totaled 2,565 hours on TV, NBC officials said.
Starting with the U.S. women’s soccer team’s game Aug. 6, which is two days before the opening ceremony, NBC will average 212 hours per day of coverage over 12 outlets.
The NBC family — which includes USA, MSNBC and CNBC — will grow with the addition of special channels for soccer and basketball. It will also stream nearly 2,200 hours on .
