Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama hasn’t talked to U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar about the vice presidency, Salazar said today.

Chatter about Salazar, a Denver Democrat, as a potential running mate started back when he first ran for the Senate in 2004. He’s landed on policy wonk and media shortlists for vice-presidential picks, but so far, he’s not on the list that counts.

Asked whether he’d consider the job if asked, Salazar said, “If I were approached, I would be honored.

“It would be something that would be considered,” Salazar added, “but I don’t expect that that will happen.”

As for his own top vice president picks for Obama, Salazar named former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, retired Gen. Wesley Clark and U.S. Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia.

Webb, however, on Monday said “under no circumstances” would he take the No. 2 slot if offered.
