COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Colorado Springs will lose service from ExpressJet Airlines when the carrier grounds its own branded flights in September, but the Continental Express commuter airline it operates will go on.
ExpressJet currently runs daily flights between Colorado Springs and three cities in California. Those flights, and all other ExpressJet service, will end Sept. 2.
Evergreen-based aviation consultant Mike Boyd says the move is the result of high oil prices. The carrier’s president and CEO, Jim Ream, says ExpressJet would not take such action if there was any other choice.
Colorado Springs Mayor Lionel Rivera says he hopes other airlines will fill the void left by ExpressJet.
ExpressJet says it will continue flying 205 aircraft nationwide as Continental Express.
