SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif.—Professional snowboarder Shaun Palmer was among four people arrested in connection with a Fourth of July fight on a Lake Tahoe beach, authorities said.
Palmer, 39, reportedly tried to break up a fight between two men on Baldwin Beach near South Lake Tahoe, but was arrested on suspicion of public intoxication, said El Dorado County sheriff’s Lt. Les Lovell.
Two 24-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of battery, while a 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of obstructing an officer.
The fight broke out after a man splashed passengers in a boat, then was pushed off the boat by a passenger described as an “ex-girlfriend,” deputies said.
Palmer, a member of the U.S. Snowboarding team, declined to comment.
As a teenager, Palmer was an innovator on a snowboard and was nearly unbeatable for several years. He also enjoyed success as a mountain bike racer, winning a world championship his first season.
The South Lake Tahoe resident later became one of the first video game action stars and created Palmer Snowboards, a company that’s still going strong today.
A week after qualifying for the 2006 Olympic Games, Palmer tore his Achilles’ tendon, dashing his Olympic hopes.
