DENVER—The federal Farm Service Agency has approved emergency drought assistance for some parts of southeastern Colorado that have been hurt by below-average precipitation.
In June, Gov. Bill Ritter asked that farmers and ranchers be granted access to Conservation Reserve Program land for emergency grazing. The Conservation Reserve Program pays farmers to leave certain land idle.
However, Ritter’s office said Friday that farmers and ranchers in Baca, Bent, Kiowa, Prowers, Phillips and Yuma counties have been approved for grazing on that land.
