Pro-stock motorcycle rider Eddie Krawiec drove into Bandimere Speedway history books Saturday at the Mile-High Nationals when he recorded a time of 7.328 seconds and became the No. 1 qualifier for today’s finals.

Krawiec buried the 2006 record of 7.332 seconds by Chip Ellis. It was an impressive finish for Krawiec, who said it was a challenge driving in the thin air.

“When you’re up here on the mountain, it’s hard to make horsepower, and to come out here with the record I think put smiles on our faces,” he said.

Anderson hits record time.

Pro-stock driver Greg Anderson set a track record at 7.020 seconds Saturday. It was Anderson’s fourth time qualifying No. 1 at Bandimere.

Serious speed for Pedregon.

With the 1,000-foot track at Bandimere Speedway for funny car and top fuel dragsters, funny car driver Tony Pedregon qualified No. 1 for today’s eliminations, finishing with a time of 4.212 seconds.

Force to be reckoned with.

Even off the race track, funny car driver Ashley Force still has to prove herself against the boys.

Force is the only female nominated for the “Like Nothing Else” Award at the 2008 ESPY Awards in a category with the Boston Red Sox’s Manny Ramirez, Pittsburgh Penguins’ Sidney Crosby and former football player George Martin.

“It is kind of weird that I keep winding up competing against male athletes. I’m the only female nominated for this ESPY,” Force said. “It’s funny because motorsports has this image of being extremely masculine. Let’s face it, this is the only sport where you could catch on fire, for instance, and here I am the female representative.”

The ESPY awards will air July 20.
