Crazy people. Beautiful places. Exciting pace. All for a good cause.
These are the touted attractions for the inaugural 8 River Rodeo on July 25-27, a charity event that will match industry professionals with paying amateurs.
The two-person-team affair will barnstorm four rivers on consecutive days, starting with the Slate, Taylor, East and Gunnison in the Gunnison country. Competitors then will scoot over Keebler Pass for a second day on the Crystal, Roaring Fork, Colorado and Eagle.
The top five teams will earn an invitation to the 2009 National Fly Fishing Championships, a qualifier for Fly Fishing Team USA, along with prizes. Anthony Naranja and two other members of Team USA will participate in the 8 River Rodeo, along with Joe Butler and co-organizers Joe Wilson and Peter Byrne.
An entry fee of $99 will benefit either Trout Unlimited or Samaritan’s Purse, an organization for children’s world hunger. Information: 303-358-4114 or .
