Longmont police arrested gang members late last night believed to be responsible for hundreds of acts of vandalism in northwest Longmont, authorities say.
Devin Koenig, 18, and six juvenile gang members were arrested just after 11 p.m. in an apartment at 3200 Lake Park Way, according to Cmdr. Tim Lewis, spokesman for the Longmont Police Department.
Koenig was arrested for investigation of felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor, juvenile drinking and possession of marijuana. The juveniles were arrested for investigation of marijuana possession and underage drinking.
When police served a search warrant on Koenig’s apartment, they discovered that the youths had been drinking alcohol and appeared to be high on marijuana, Lewis said. Police found small amounts of marijuana in the apartment, he said.
Detectives also found drawings in the apartment that matched graffiti that had been drawn and painted on buildings northwest of town the past six months, Lewis said.
The juveniles were booked and released to their parents with court dates. They include a 16-year-old girl and five boys ranging from 15 to 17.
Koenig was taken to the Boulder County Jail.
The vandalism caused thousands of dollars in damage to private and public property, Lewis said.
During their investigation, detectives identified at least two other gangs that have been vandalizing property in northwest Longmont. The gangs have primarily targeted parks.
Anyone with information about the other two gangs can call 303-651-8501. Crimestoppers is offering up to $1000 for information that leads to arrests of additional suspects, Lewis said.
