Dahlia Weinstein left her position as editor-in-chief at Denver Magazine on Monday afternoon.

Publisher Michael Ledwitz will take over the editor slot while looking for a managing editor.

Weinstein, the former society editor for the Rocky Mountain News and short-time editor of short-lived Shine magazine, took the helm at Denver Magazine in October and oversaw its first three issues.

“It’s the same old story,” Weinstein says. “He’s now the editor. End of story. All publishers think they can play with their toy, and they end up breaking it. I’m not prepared talk about it. I’m talking to an attorney.”

Weinstein says she was “abruptly fired” 30 minutes after putting the upcoming issue to bed Monday.

“That’s a lie,” says Ledwitz, who did not wish to elaborate. “We just didn’t have the same editorial direction for this magazine. My vision and her vision were two different things.”

Weinstein says she is taking “a bit of a break,” but that she’s heard “lots of good things,” since word of her dismissal spread today.

“My reputation is stellar in this town. I’ve already had a couple of offers.”

A Democratic National Convention-themed fourth issue of Denver Magazine is due out shortly.
