The Colorado Automobile Dealers Association announced today that it supports the right-to-work initiative, which will appear on the November ballot as Amendment 47.

“Amendment 47 would make the Colorado job market more attractive for workers and businesses alike, due to the introduction of workers’ choice,” said Tim Jackson, president of the association, which represents 260 new-car and truck dealers in the state.

The measure would ask voters to amend the state constitution to say that union membership and the payment of dues or fees could not be mandated as a condition of employment.

A Better Colorado, the group pushing the initiative, said today that the Mountain States Employers Council, the Rifle Area Chamber of Commerce and the Huerfano County Chamber of Commerce also have endorsed the measure.

“It’s only logical that a chamber of commerce would endorse this measure,” said Annick Pruett, executive of the Rifle Chamber, in a press release.

The Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce, however, has said it will oppose the measure. Denver chamber president Joe Blake has said existing Colorado labor law provides balance for businesses and unions.
