Newspaperman Horace Greeley encouraged the ambitious among his 19th-century peers to “Go West, young man,” and explore the great frontier. We asked the same of entrants to The Denver Post $25 Haiku Contest. After tromping around many interpretations of what constitutes a frontier, we settled on a verse by Lisa Beyerle of Colorado Springs:
Crisp breeze on my cheek,
Hope and mystery ahead . . .
I step out my door.
