The all-stars will be out in Cincinnati tonight when Rockies pitcher Aaron Cook (12-6, 3.58 ERA) matches up against Reds pitcher Edinson Volquez (12-3, 2.49). Cook is in fine form, and he has learned how to make in-game adjustments. In his last start, for instance, he was overthrowing, leaving his sinkerball up, which allowed the Pirates to shell him for three runs on four hits in the first inning. But Cook quickly settled down, allowing just one hit and no runs in his final six innings as he cruised to his 12th win of the season. Volquez, 25, has been sensational, but he struggled in his last start against the Mets. He gave up four runs on eight hits in five innings, throwing 110 pitches. He didn’t figure in the decision and is looking to get back on track tonight. Volquez, 5-1 in his past 10 starts, has never faced the Rockies.
