The Rapids on Monday traded Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guarda to FC Dallas for second- and third- round picks in the 2009 Major League Soccer draft.
The Rapids claimed the rights to Guarda, a former Southern Methodist star, last Tuesday in a weighted leaguewide lottery. Immediately afterward, Rapids general manager Charlie Wright said several teams were interested in trading for Guarda.
An attacking midfielder, Guarda was coveted by several MLS teams before and after the Rapids won the right to draft him. He was a two-time Conference USA player of the year and a Hermann Trophy semifinalist.
Guarda will be reunited with his former college coach, FC Dallas skipper Schellas Hyndman.
