The Colorado Rapids on Monday traded Brazilian midfielder Bruno Guarda to FC Dallas for two picks in the 2009 MLS draft, the team said.

The Rapids claimed the rights to the former collegiate standout at Southern Methodist last Tuesday in a weighted league-wide lottery.

Immediately after, Rapids general manager Charlie Wright said that several teams were interested in trading for Guarda. And Guarda’s agent, Dan Segal, said Thursday his client was holding off making any public statements about joining the Rapids.

An attacking midfielder, Guarda was coveted by several MLS teams before and after the Rapids won the right to draft him. He was a two-time Conference USA player of the year and a Hermann Trophy semifinalst.

Guarda will be reunited with his former college coach, FC Dallas skipper Schellas Hyndman.
