South Park Museum’s 51st.
Help celebrate South Park Museum’s 51st anniversary by visiting its “Living History Day” Aug. 9. South Park City is in Fairplay, 85 miles from Denver on U.S. 285 and 85 miles from Colorado Springs on U.S. 24. Board members, volunteers and friends of the South Park Historical Site and Foundation, dressed in 1880s pioneer, mining and Western costumes, will tell visitors about the area’s history, when hordes of gold seekers spilled into the South Park areas from Tarryall to the high mountain slopes of the Mosquito Mountain Range. Visitors can try gold panning, listen to a troubadour play the banjo, and sing along to the antique player piano while a saloon keeper sells sarsaparilla and ginger beer. Cost: $7.50 for adults; $4 children ages 6-12; and senior discounts are available. Friendly dogs on leashes are welcome. Info: 719-836-2387 or .
