BOULDER, Colo.—Haystack Mountain Goat Dairy says it will shutter its farm in Boulder but will still operate its Longmont creamery and produce goat cheese made from an outside milk source.

CEO Tim Overlie says Haystack plans to sell 108 goats and may sell the farm where the business started in 1992.

In 2006, a deal with Boulder County allowed the dairy to gain more land, and the dairy also agreed to build a cheese-making facility in Ada, Okla.

But Overlie says a dispute with Haystack’s workers’ compensation carrier last year limited Haystack’s ability to raise money. Operating costs and finding suppliers were tougher than expected for the Oklahoma facility, which closed in November, and expansion plans were put on hold earlier this year.
