The Democrats are not the only ones holding a major convention in Denver this month. Starting Wednesday and running through Sunday masses of people interested in otherworldly things will attend the 66th edition of the World Science Fiction Convention at the Colorado Convention Center and several downtown hotels.

The convention features such activities as panels, readings, signings, parties, an art show, dealers’ booths and, the main event, the presentation of the Hugo Awards, the genre’s biggest prize.

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon and Coloradan and multi-Hugo-winning author Connie Willis head a long list of candidates for the award in best novel; best novella; best novelette; best related book; best dramatic presentation, long form; best dramatic presentation, short form; best professional editor, long form; best professional editor, short form; best professional artist; best semiprozine; best fanzine; best fan writer; best fan artist; and the John C. Campbell Award for best new science fiction writer. Ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wells Fargo Theater at the Convention Center.
