Caution has replaced wild abandon. Shortstop Troy Tulowitzki looks the same, but admitted he’s not the defender he was a year ago because of his previous left quadriceps tear. Evidence came in the first inning when he made a backhanded play on a groundball and didn’t attempt his vintage jump throw. Said Tulowitzki, “I don’t like playing under control, but I don’t want to do anything bizarre to hurt myself. I wish I could do the things I did last year, but my leg is not letting me do that yet.”
Getting a breather.
With the Rockies trailing 10-1, Seth Smith replaced left fielder Matt Holliday.
Other Ramirez.
A Ramirez homered Thursday. It just wasn’t Manny as fans had hoped. Florida’s Hanley Ramirez swatted his 25th home run, tops among all shortstops.
