A house fire in Westminster yesterday started by cooking in a garage and ended up doing $120,000 in damages to the home.

Firefighters rushed to the home on the 9200 block of Vance Court about 4:10 p.m. Wednesday to find flames had overtaken the garage the rooms above the garage, the fire department said in a news release.

Two residents got out on their own and there were no injuries.

“Never store or use propane cylinders or cooking devices in your garage,” Westminster Fire Department Lieutenant Erik Birk said in a statement. “Summer heat causes gas to expand and vent, which added to the spread and intensity of this fire.”
