In a message to its members, Evergreen Trout Unlimited has called for a moratorium on fishing in Bear Creek below Evergreen Lake to protect trout from temperature-related stress. Water temperature of 68 degrees or higher, with spikes into the 70s, has been recorded for 25 consecutive days.

“There are no official restrictions, but this is a way of getting out the word that there’s a real temperature issue,” ETU spokesman John Haile said.

Caused primarily by sun-heated sheet water spilling over Evergreen Lake Dam, the condition is worsened by low flows. A reading of 21 cubic feet per second is half the normal flow for this date.

Waterton closure.

Denver Water has announced that Waterton Canyon will be closed to public access from 8:30 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Friday to facilitate a maintenance project. The closure includes the parking lot at the entrance to the canyon.

Tarryall inspection.

The Colorado Division of Wildlife has added Tarryall Reservoir to its inspection list for trailered boats to prevent the spread of zebra and quagga mussels. Following inspection, trailered boats will be allowed on the reservoir from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Thursday through Monday. Hand-launched boats don’t require inspection. DOW conducts a daily inspection for trailered boats at Antero Reservoir.
