Are you ready for some football? Or will it be more like a circus?
With NFL commissioner Roger Goodell finally giving his blessing, Brett Favre will become an active NFL quarterback again today.
Where? For now, back in Green Bay.
A private plane carrying Favre, wife Deanna and agent James “Bus” Cook arrived in Green Bay on Sunday night. Favre exited the plane and waved to a crowd of several hundred fans gathered at the airport — in a severe lightning storm, no less — before driving off in an SUV.
The Packers reluctantly embraced Favre’s forced return to the football field, after failing to come to a financial agreement that would keep Favre retired; or trade him.
And while it’s not yet clear what role Favre will play, Aaron Rodgers says he’s ready for a potential competition after serving as Favre’s backup for three seasons.
“There comes a time when (my) mentor and I get to compete, and I guess that’s what’s going to happen,” Rodgers said after a scrimmage Sunday night. “If that’s what happens, then I’m going to give it my best shot and leave the rest up to Coach.” Denver Post staff & wire services
