BRIGHTON — A judge has ordered a trial for a 17-year-old accused of fatally stabbing his friend’s father while he was spending the night at their home.

Andrew Michael Galek is expected to enter a plea Sept. 11 for the case in which he is being tried as an adult on a first-degree murder charge.

Police say Galek stabbed 63-year-old Hans Winter on July 13 at his home in Westminster.

Police first received a call from Winter saying Galek had a small knife and was suicidal. Police say they found Galek hiding under a parked pickup truck near the victim’s home about 15 minutes after the stabbing.

An Adams County judge on Friday bound Galek over for trial. Galek is being held without bond. The Associated Press
