The NHL on Tuesday changed the start times of six Avalanche games for the upcoming season.

Among the changes, the Avs’ game at Dallas on Oct. 18 was moved to noon from 1 p.m. The other five time changes are for Avalanche games at the Pepsi Center:

Dec. 9 vs. Los Angeles, 7:30 p.m.

Dec. 29 vs. Nashville, 7:30 p.m.

Jan. 29 vs. Toronto, 7:30 p.m.

Feb. 2 vs. Calgary, 7:30 p.m.

Feb. 17 vs. Ottawa, 7:30 p.m.

Storm suspends women’s golf championship.

Stormy weather caused the Colorado Women’s Golf Association to suspend play at the CWGA Match Play Championship on Tuesday at the Pinery Country Club in Parker. Play will resume today at 6:45 a.m.

Becca Huffer of Overland Golf Club and Ashley Tait of Raccoon Creek highlighted the first-round winners.

Brown brothers qualify for U.S. Amateur.

Zahkai Brown of Arvada carded a 3-under-par 141 for 36 holes to earn the USGA low qualifying medal at a U.S. Amateur sectional qualifier at Vista Ridge Golf Club in Erie.

He beat his brother, Zen, by one stroke. The Brown brothers and Sean Hedden of Erie qualified for the U.S. Amateur at Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 4 in North Carolina, Aug. 18-24. Zahkai won the Colorado Class 5A title in 2007.

Outlaws in position for postseason.

The Denver Outlaws (8-3) can earn the No. 1 seed in the Major League Lacrosse playoffs with a victory in their regular-season finale at Boston (6-5) on Saturday. Even if the Outlaws lose, they can gain the top seed if Rochester (9-3) loses at Chicago (3-8).

Along with Denver and Rochester, Los Angeles (7-4) and defending champion Philadelphia (7-4) have advanced to the Aug. 23 semifinals at Boston’s Harvard Stadium. The winners meet in the championship game Aug. 24. The same four teams made the playoffs last season. Denver lost to Philadelphia 13-12 in overtime in the semifinals.

Barnes skates, shoots to win.

USA Biathlon doesn’t need snow to conduct races. Lanny Barnes of Durango won the senior women’s 7.5-kilometer sprint at the Ethan Allen Firing Range in Jericho, Vt., in 23 minutes, 47 seconds, picking up three shooting penalties.

Senior rides off with gold.

Morgan Heinrichs, a senior-to-be at Dawson School in Lafayette, won two gold medals over the weekend at the North American Junior and Young Rider Championships in Parker.

Heinrichs won gold in junior freestyle dressage and junior team dressage.
