Fast-food and retail businesses in Durango have been passed counterfeit $20 and $50 bills, police said today.
The fake bills have turned up in businesses’ daily deposits, according to a statement from the Durango Police Department, which is not saying how many bills have been passed. No one has been arrested.
The $20 bills have turned up primarily at restaurants, while the $50 bills were passed at a local mall.
Durango police are instructing local businesses on how to detect fake bills and have asked them to contact police and stall the person handing over the suspicious bill until authorities arrive or to get a description and a license plate number if the person leaves.
