NIWOT, Colo.—Crocs Inc., maker of colorful plastic clogs, has laid off 75 people, or about 4 percent of its U.S. workforce.

Crocs spokeswoman Tia Mattson announced the cuts Thursday. She says the majority were in Colorado.

The layoffs leave the company with 1,774 workers in the U.S. and about 3,950 around the world.

Crocs on Thursday reported second-quarter net income of $2.1 million, or 3 cents per share, down sharply from a profit of $48.5 million, or 58 cents per share, in last year’s second quarter.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Financial had forecast a profit of 5 cents per share, on average, in the latest quarter.

Crocs shares were up 14 cents to $4.46 in early afternoon trading Friday.
