SANTIAGO, Chile — Former Chilean President Patricio Aylwin has been hospitalized after choking while having lunch at home.
Dr. Miguel Marchesse of Santiago’s Catholic University Hospital said Friday that the 89-year-old former leader is doing well but would remain there at least overnight.
Aylwin was a leading opposition figure during the 1973-90 dictatorship of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. He was president from 1990 to 1994, after the end of the Pinochet regime.
