The Air Force hockey team will open its season Oct. 5 with an exhibition game against the University of Alberta at Cadet Ice Arena and will start its Atlantic Hockey Association schedule Oct. 10 against Sacred Heart in Milford, Conn.
The Falcons, coming off a 21-12-6 season and their second consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament, announced their 2008-09 schedule Monday. It’s highlighted by home games against Colorado College on Nov. 28 and against Army on Jan. 23-24.
Air Force will host Bemidji State in a nonconference series Oct. 17-18, when coach Frank Serratore sends the Falcons against his younger brother, Tom, the Beavers’ coach. Air Force plays at the University of Denver on Nov. 29.
Eagles re-sign three players.
The Colorado Eagles of the Central Hockey League re-signed forwards Scott Polaski and Steve Hadden and defenseman Jason Beatty. Polaski, a former Colorado College player, will return for a fourth season with the Eagles. He had 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 43 games last season.
UNC fifth in Big Sky poll.
The Northern Colorado volleyball team was picked in a preseason poll to finish fifth in the nine-team Big Sky Conference this year.
Big Sky favorite Portland State received five of nine first-place votes. Sacramento State received three first-place votes, Eastern Washington one. The poll projected Sacramento State to finish second, followed by Weber State, Eastern Washington and UNC.
