DENVER—Authorities say a man who died of possible cyanide poisoning at a Denver hotel was 29-year-old Saleman Abdirahman Dirie from Ottawa.

The medical examiner’s office said Tuesday an autopsy is planned.

Police say he had been dead for several days when his body was discovered Monday in a room at The Burnsley Hotel, about four blocks from the State Capitol.

A hazardous-materials team found a bottle of white powder in the man’s fourth-floor room. Authorities say they are trying to determine what the powder is.
