The Cowboys are coming, the Cowboys are coming.
OK, so it’s just the relatively meaningless preseason. So the real games don’t start for almost a month.
The Cowboys still are coming. And the Broncos would do well to take a close look at how they run their offense.
“We’re not looking at them as stars,” Brandon Marshall said. “They’re just humans.”
But as a group, the Cowboys are the team the Broncos want to be. They don’t just have a high-powered offense. They score touchdowns from all over the field.
It isn’t just the red zone where the 2007 Cowboys were more efficient than the Broncos. The Cowboys, unlike the Broncos, hit home runs. To wit: The Dallas offense scored 50 touchdowns, of which 20 came from outside the red zone.
The Broncos? Their offense scored 31 touchdowns — 25 in the red zone, six from the 20 or beyond.
If, as Mike Shanahan insists, the Broncos are going to turn things around, those numbers have to change. Settling for field goals is a sure-fire way to watch the playoffs, not qualify for them.
