Colorado State cornerback Nick Oppenneer, the former Columbine quarterback who is a walk-on transfer from the University of Mary (N.D.), left Tuesday’s practice with an ankle injury. The severity or how long he will miss practice was not known. In related bad news for the Rams at the already-thin position, redshirt freshman Elijah-Blu Smith still can’t put much weight on the foot he broke in spring ball. He is unlikely to be available for the start of the season.

Cornerback DeAngelo Wilkinson has been cited on two misdemeanor assault charges for an incident at a Fort Collins nightclub on Aug. 3 in which he was the only person injured. Wilkinson, who remains on indefinite suspension, has a Sept. 3 court date. He also faces a charge for underage possession of alcoholic beverages. Fort Collins police spokesperson Rita Davis said she did not know the extent of his injuries.

Starting linebacker Ricky Brewer was also ticketed for underage possession, according to Davis. Brewer said Monday he couldn’t discuss the matter other than it was an “unfortunate incident.”
