CHEYENNE — A federal judge in Wyoming has overturned a Clinton-era ban on road construction in nearly 60 million acres of national forest.
U.S. District Judge Clarence Brimmer’s ruling Tuesday is the latest turn in a long-running legal dispute over a Clinton administration rule limiting logging and other development in roadless areas.
Brimmer says the so-called roadless rule was enacted in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act and the Wilderness Act.
The Wyoming ruling doesn’t directly affect Colorado, which opted to develop its own roadless management plan under a Bush administration initiative. The Colorado plan has been criticized by conservation groups.
