DENVER—A prosecutor who has argued scores of cases before the U.S. Supreme Court will handle the government’s appeal in the insider trading case of former Qwest CEO Joe Nacchio.

Prosecutors said Wednesday that Edwin S. Kneedler will make the government’s case when the full 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reviews a decision by a three-judge panel to overturn Nacchio’s conviction.

Kneedler is principal deputy solicitor general for the Justice Department and one of just eight people who have argued at least 100 cases before the Supreme Court.

Nacchio was convicted in 2007. A three-judge panel of the 10th Circuit overturned the conviction in March, saying trial testimony from a defense witness was improperly barred. Last month, the full appeals court agreed to review that decision.

Oral arguments are scheduled Sept. 25.
