DENVER—A Longmont man is dead after the car he was driving plunged off a bridge in Boulder County.
The Colorado State Patrol says 59-year-old Michael Nitzel was southbound on North 115th Street about 7:10 p.m. Tuesday when his Mazda B3000 drifted off the right side of the road and hit a sign.
The car then hit two metal fence posts and a bridge guardrail before rolling off the bridge and landing on its top on a natural gas pipeline.
Nitzel suffered serious injuries and was taken to Longmont United Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, but authorities say alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.
