A recent attack in which a man put a damp cloth over a Colorado State University student’s face while she slept is similar to an April sexual assault on the same block.
At 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Fort Collins police were called to an apartment on the 1000 block of Andrews Peak Drive, after a man tried to overcome a 20-year-old student while she slept, said Rita Davis, Fort Collins police spokeswoman.
The woman awoke after the suspect put a wet cloth over her face. She fought the man, who fled the apartment.
Police believe the attacker entered the apartment through an unlocked door or window, Davis said. There was no evidence of a break-in, she said.
The victim said the man was about 6-feet tall and was wearing dark clothing, Davis said.
On April 23, at about 3 a.m. someone entered an apartment occupied by three college-aged women on the same block and placed a cloth over the nose and mouth of a 19-year-old woman, Davis said.
She lost consciousness and awoke at about 5 a.m., she said.
She thought she was having a bad dream until she noticed the front exterior door and a kitchen window were opened, Davis said.
She called police and it was later determined she had been sexually assaulted. It is believed the suspect entered the residence through a closed, yet unlocked window.
Both victims are CSU students. Police have not been able to identify what liquid was used in the attacks, Davis said.
Police do not have specific evidence to link the two assaults together, but believe one suspect may be responsible, Davis said.
She warned that people need to lock their doors and windows.
