A shouting match turned into a drive-by shooting that left three injured from a single shotgun blast near Flanders Park in Aurora on Wednesday night.
Aurora police said today that the assault was gang-related as the department announced the arrests of Vincent L. Ayers, 19, Reginald L. Crane, 20, and two 15-year-olds. All four are being held on suspicion of attempted first-degree murder.
The shooting happened at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 3000 block of South Espana Way.
Police found a juvenile with shotgun-pellet wounds to his upper body, although they weren’t life-threatening.
While a detective was at the hospital to interview the injured juvenile, two other young people walked into the hospital with shotgun-pellet wounds from the same drive-by.
Police soon pulled over a blue sedan that fit the description of the one in the attack. After four occupants were taken to police headquarters, officers recovered the shotgun they say was used in the shooting.
Aurora police said the incident started when two groups of young males were yelling at one another near the park. One group left, and the other migrated to a cul de sac on the north side of the park.
Witnesses told police the blue sedan pulled into the cul de sac and that an occupant fired a shotgun. The person who was first rushed to the hospital was simply in the park and had no involvement in the original confrontation.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Detective Craig Appel at 303-739-6207.
