Broncos reporter Mike Klis proposes five goals for the team in its preseason game Saturday night against the Dallas Cowboys at Invesco Field:
1. Pick up the blitz
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips surprised his former team with a heavy dose of first-half blitzes in last year’s preseason game at Texas Stadium. The Broncos didn’t pick it up well.
2. Avoid postgame visit from Greek
The Broncos lost DE Ebenezer Ekuban to a season-ending Achilles injury in the Dallas game last year, and trainer Steve “Greek” Antonopulos treated scary injuries to Boss Bailey and Louis Green last week in Houston.
3. Marshall vs. Pacman
Broncos star receiver Brandon Marshall and Cowboys cornerback Adam Jones went at it during practice sessions. May they be matched up several times Saturday and, you know, see what happens.
4. A pass rush, please
The Broncos didn’t get much penetration from their front four vs. Houston. Their two sacks came on blitzes from CB Christian Morton, who has been cut, and LB Jordan Beck.
5. Maintain discipline
After getting embarrassed by the bigger Cowboys last year, the Broncos played with pride during the joint practices this week. Tempers flared Thursday, and there’s a chance some ill feelings will carry into the game.
