Two men who died in a one-vehicle traffic crash early Monday morning have been identified by Aurora police.
Roberto Villasenor, 35, of Colton was the driver of the truck that crashed and Conrado Enriques Beltran, 49, of Arizona, was a passenger, Aurora Police said in a press release.
Villasenor was apparently fleeing a minor traffic accident he was in when his truck crashed into a steel pole at high speed, police said.
The minor hit-and-run accident happened about 1:20 a.m. in the 9500 block of East Colfax Avenue outside the Si Amigos bar, police said.
A short time later, a patrol officer spotted a white Ford F450 truck eastbound on East Colfax with no lights on and speeding about 70 mph in a 35-mph zone.
It matched the description of the vehicle in the hit-and-run, police said. The officer pursued the Ford but lost it.
The speeding truck ran off Colfax just east of Moline Street and hit a pole in the 11500 block of East Colfax, police said.
Villasenor died at the scene; Beltran died at University Hospital, police said.
Neither was wearing a seat belt, and Villasenor was partially ejected from the truck.
The investigation is ongoing and excessive speed was a factor in the crash, police said. Toxicology results are pending.
