Commerce City detectives have closed an investigation into the July drowning of a 15-year-old girl, concluding it was accidental, authorities say.

The girl, whose identity was not released, was swimming with friends at the deep end of a pool at the Commerce City Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Drive on the evening of July 25 when she sank into the water, authorities say.

The girl’s friends summoned lifeguards when she didn’t come up immediately, police said.

Lifeguards performed CPR on the girl, then paramedics took her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
