ST. PAUL, Minn.—The St. Paul Police Department is reaching out as far as Boston to recruit officers to help out with the Republican National Convention.

A spokesman for the Boston police says an internal request was made, but it isn’t clear whether any Boston officers have signed on to help in St. Paul. Boston hosted the Democratic National Convention in 2004.

The St. Paul police hope to have 3,500 officers working during the event September 1-4. The officers are mostly expected to come from Minnesota.

Police Chief John Harrington says police “are well on our way to having far more than adequate staffing.”

Logistical problems are preventing some law enforcement agencies from participating.
