BOULDER — Colorado football coach Dan Hawkins said he holds his breath anytime a player appears to get hurt. Nobody could blame Hawkins if he also skipped a heart beat Wednesday morning when touted freshman tailback Darrell Scott had to leave the practice field to get a thumb iced.
Scott sprained the thumb on a pass-rushing drill. Scott said he does not expect to miss any subsequent practice time.
“I think he’ll be OK,” Hawkins said. “He will just have to tape it up and keep it from wiggling around a little bit.
“(I hurt) for everybody, but that’s life, that’s football. I bleed, I cry when we get guys hurt. But you deal with it. You help them learn. That’s why you have other guys, too. Football is a huge team game. You’d better have everybody else ready to go.”
Scott said he will be ready to go after the ice helps reduce the swelling.
“I’m good. I’ll practice tonight,” he said.
