DENVER—The Rockies say the sent right-handed pitcher Matt Herges to the 15-day disabled list with lower back stiffness and brought Ryan Speier from Triple-A Colorado Springs to take his place.

Herges move is retroactive to Aug. 18. The right-handed Speier will be available for the Rockies’ game against the Los Angeles Dodgers Wednesday night.

The 38-year-old Herges is 3-4 with an ERA of 5.09 this season. Speier is a 29-year-old who has appeared in 72 games for the Rockies since 2005. He is 1-1 this season with an ERA of 4.66.
