DENVER—Denver police say a protest on the eve of the Democratic National Convention led to four arrests for minor offenses.
About 1,000 people participated in a Sunday morning protest organized by the group Recreate 68. Police patrolled on bicycles and on foot as the protesters marched from the state Capitol and on to Colfax Avenue.
The four arrests were for misdemeanors including disturbing the peace, trespassing, interfering with police authority, providing false information and disobedience.
Early Monday, authorities detonated an abandoned backpack that was found near the corner of Colfax and Broadway.
John Harrison of the city and county Joint Information Center didn’t have information on what was inside the backpack.
He says it’s standard procedure for suspicious packages to be detonated.
