CLOVIS, N.M. — As authorities continued their search Tuesday for five inmates still missing from the Curry County jail, a focus of the investigation turned to whether someone inside the facility may have aided in the prisoners’ escape.
District Attorney Matt Chandler said investigators believe some of the escapees could be in West Texas.
Eight inmates escaped Sunday, but three had been captured.
Authorities believe the men used handmade instruments to cut a hole in the roof near a skylight, and climbed plumbing pipes to get to the roof area.
