Getting your player ready...

SAN FRANCISCO — The Rockies will be without closer Brian Fuentes after the reliever was placed on the bereavement list today. Stephen Register, one of the team’s best Triple-A relievers, left Colorado Springs to join the Rockies tonight.

He was called up previously for a cameo and impressed the coaching staff and teammates.

According to Major League Baseball rules, a player must remain on the bereavement list for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven.

Fuentes has been arguably baseball’s best baseball closer since taking over the role in late April. He has posted 26 saves overall, including a 13-for-13 streak since July 3. He has struck out 34 of the last 74 batters he’s faced, his most dominating stretch ever with the Rockies.

Colorado will face Matt Palmer tonight. Jorge De La Rosa starts for the Rockies.

A look at the Rockies’ lineup:

Rockies (62-71)

2B Clint Barmes

CF Willy Taveras

LF Matt Holliday

RF Brad Hawpe

1B Garrett Atkins

3B Ian Stewart

C Chris Iannetta

SS Troy Tulowitzki

LHP Jorge De La Rosa
