WHEAT RIDGE, Colo.—Wheat Ridge Fire Chief James R. Payne has died after suffering critical injuries in a fall at home nearly five months ago.
Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Stigall says Payne died early Tuesday.
Stigall says Payne never recovered from a severe brain injury he suffered when he fell from a ladder on April 4 while trimming a tree.
Payne had been a member of the Wheat Ridge department for more than 14 years.
The funeral will be Saturday.
