LAYTON, Utah — A Layton man is fighting a city order to get rid of a brood of chickens he keeps on his property.

Jerry Everett lives in a residential zone, which means livestock are off-limits.

Neighbors started complaining because a rooster on Everett’s property was giving a daily 4 a.m. wake-up call. City officials soon found Everett also had some hens.

Everett asked the city to rezone his property, but city officials say they can’t do it just so he can keep the chickens.
